What is Veterans' Home Care (VHC)?

The Veterans’ Home Care Program offers practical, low-level supports to help eligible veterans or widows/widowers remain living independently at home.  

While the program is not designed to meet long-term or high-level care needs, it does provide support with:  

  • Domestic tasks

  • Personal care

  • Respite care

  • Home and garden maintenance

We offer Veterans’ Home Care in selected areas of New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and Western Australia.  

Am I eligible?  

You are eligible for a Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) assessment if you have a: 

Carers and family members of Gold Card and White Card holders with an accepted service-related condition may also be eligible for an assessment.

What does VHC include?

VHC provides a range of services to help you manage your day-to-day activities.  This includes:  

  • Domestic support

    Support with cleaning and household tasks. 

  • Personal care

    Help with showering, medication, and meal preparation.

  • Home maintenance

    Help with the garden and other household maintenance.

  • Respite

    Care for you while your carer has a break.

How does it work? 

To check your eligibility to support through Veterans’ Home Care: 

Step 1  

Contact the VHC Assessment Agency directly on 1300 550 450 for an assessment over the phone. 

Step 2 

They’ll assess your needs and determine the support you need and the services you’re eligible for. 

Step 3 

You’ll receive a VHC Service Plan, which will be sent to you and us as your VHC service provider. 

Step 4 

We’ll call you to discuss your service plan. 

What will I pay?  

You will pay a small amount towards the cost of your services. This is called a co-payment. The cost per service is set by the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) and is capped at a per service and per week rate. There is no co-payment for respite services. Find out more on the DVA website.
