What is Recovery Coaching?
We provide support for people living with a diagnosed psychological disability using recovery-based practices.
Psychosocial recovery coaching is an NDIS funded support for people with a psychosocial disability. It aims to help you to maintain your wellness and build your capacity and resilience over time using recovery-based practices.
What is a Psychosocial disability?
A psychosocial disability mostly refers to the social and economic impacts of living with a mental health condition. For example, it could negatively impact your ability to earn money, buy things that you need, or your relationships with friends or family.
Psychosocial disability describes the challenges you may experience that are related to your mental health condition that affect your ability to participate in life.
Who is a Psychosocial Recovery Coach?
A Psychosocial Recovery Coach is an NDIS funded worker who also has mental health training. The role of a recovery coach is to support people with disability brought on from a mental health condition.
Unlike Therapists, Recovery Coaches cannot diagnose a mental health condition. However, they do undergo specialist training to guide you through your recovery journey and help you enact positive change to lead a fulfilling life.
What can a Recovery Coach do for you?
Our coaches empower you on a journey to live the life you want. We work with you, your family members, carers, other services, and supporters, to identify, plan, design and coordinate NDIS supports in the complex system and maintain engagement.
Our coaches will:
Spend time with you, and people important to you, to get to know you and understand your needs.
Assist with finding different services and supports, and how these can help you.
Help you get support from mental health services.
Ensure you better understand the NDIS and support you with the NDIS.
Your journey to recovery is our priority, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Where and how Life Without Barriers delivers Recovery Coaching.
Our Recovery Coach service is available in any format you choose. This can be face-to-face, online, or by phone call. We can be flexible to suit your needs.
We currently offer Recovery Coaching services in South Australia.
How is it different to a Support Coordinator?
A Support Coordinator helps people make the most of their NDIS plan by building their abilities. You don't need a specific diagnosis to have support coordination in your NDIS plan.
On the other hand, a Psychosocial Recovery Coach is for people with a main diagnosis of psychosocial disability.
Is this service in my NDIS plan?
In your NDIS plan, recovery coaching is funded by the Capacity Building Supports budget, under Capacity Building.
